1.  A Different Spirit: This inspiring biography of noted wheelchair athlete Malathi K. Holla is the Foundation’s maiden project. Launched on July 8, 2009, A Different Spirit captures the trials and turbulences of Malathi, who despite 32 surgeries and many set-backs in her life, never gave-up and won over 300 medals for India in various international championships. Written by senior journalist Anantha Krishnan M. and priced at Rs 300, A Different Spirit is been now hailed as one of the most inspiring stories of our times, by the Indian Media. (To order a copy of this book, log on to: www.adifferentspirit.com)

  2. A dedicated website: This website which you are now surfing is our 2nd project. A lot of smart and simple thinking have gone into the making of www.inspiredindianfoundation.org. We wanted to keep the website very user-friendly since it is the spine of our Foundation’s activities. We hope we have provided enough space for all segments and our main objective is to give writing opportunity to all Indians to capture inspiring stories about unsung heroes. The student section (Young India) is open to all students and you can write anything under the sun with a maximum word limit of 250 words. So, what’s stopping you? Write, India Write!

  3. The Write Magazine: This is our third project which should be hitting the stands very soon. A magazine that will capture the heart and soul of unsung heroes. A right platform for all budding writers and journalists. To be circulated free-of-cost to those who support the Inspired Indian Foundation, The Write magazine will be a quarterly to start with. It will carry the best stories from this website and a panel of senior editors and reporters will chip in during their spare time to make The Write the next big thing in Indian Journalism.

  4. Annual Inspiring Indian Awards: This will be one event that you could look forward every year. This will happen in the mid of every year, starting from 2010. We will honour Indians who made a difference through their sheer hard work, honesty, dedication and fighting spirit. Just that they will have to be ordinary citizens and not super stars. These awardees will be unsung heroes – to be selected by a panel. There are going to be 11 Indians to be selected every year and the sponsorship window for these 11 catagories will be open shortly.

Shantha Teacher
5. Shantha Teacher Memorial Media Award: The Foundation will be instituting an annual award for budding journalists in print media. The inaugural ‘G. Shantha Teacher Memorial Media Award’ will be given to a young reporter with a minimum of 2 years (and not more than 3 years) experience in print media. The reports should have been published between 2008 April and 2010 March. G. Shantha teacher, was a post-graduate in English literature and hailed from Thalavadi, in Kerala’s Alapuzha district. Born to scholar parents, she taught English in colleges and schools for over three decades. Many of her students are now leading political and literary figures in India. Shantha teacher passed away at the age of 65 in 2007 February, after a massive heart attack. The Inspired Indian Foundation wanted to salute the spirit of Shantha teacher in promoting good literature and the annual media award to a young journalist is our small gesture in that direction. Apart from a cash prize of Rs 10,001, a specially-designed citation and a certificate awaits the winner. Watch this space for the formal announcement of this award.

Thank you for introducing me to Inspired Indian Foundation. It is a wonderful effort to bring up issues and causes that plague our country at this time. Taking its roots in the backwaters of Kerala, the movement has come a long way and now it should spread to a pan-India level. All the best. Pulak Sen, Editor-in-Chief, Indian Aviation
